Soy Mill
As an advocator of soy drink and slow food movement, HUADOU GmbH has invited YUUE to redesign traditional tools for preparing soy milk and soy food. Besides solving existing problems in terms of hygiene and efficiency, this project also aimed at integrating tradition into modern life. Both objects can be easily stored at home. Being displayed, they make a unique scenery of the past and the now.
Thanks to modern manufacturing technologies, the traditional stone mill is redesigned to get a modern look. It’s more compact and grinds soybean and other grains more efficiently. The rounded triangular shape of the stone mill gets rid of a protruding outlet and provides a bigger bottom space; The two top surfaces are formed as funnel and slope to prevent blockage caused by soybeans or soy dregs. The grinding surfaces are optimized for finer soy milk and handier operation. The new soy stone mill preserves the traditional features to the maximum extent while improving the user experience and maintaining the balance between contemporary design language and symbolism of tradition.
